A few months ago, I was consulting for a startup company that was having a serious challenge in their business operations. After analyzing the company’s daily operational activities, I discovered that the executives were not properly communicating the business objectives to the various team leaders. Their inability to effectively communicate with the managers was costing the organization a lot of money.

Having an open communication policy entails that the work environment is made very conducive and supports feedback. Employees should be allowed to make suggestions on how to improve the business process. This method is an effective way to engage employees.

Ensure to listen to a suggestion without bias or prejudice. Challenge employees to ask a question whenever in doubt.

Aside from the normal face to face communication, it is necessary to employ technologies that would aid smooth communication within teams and departments. Also, it is necessary to avoid sending out frequent irrelevant messages to employees. Too much irrelevant messages can result in communication silos.
